Production Design trainee - expression of interest

This year, for the first time in 75 years, Melbourne Gang Show is offering a unique opportunity. We have created a new position: Production Design Trainee.

It is an opportunity for a youth member, to join the production design team and observe, participate and learn how the physical design elements of Melbourne Gang Show are created.

 
 

What does the Production Design Team Do?

The Production Design Team is responsible for creating the overall visual and design concepts of the show, to ensure all technical elements of the production support and enhance the vision of the director and production team.

Whilst the there are individual designers responsible for each discipline e.g. Lighting, Sound and Costumes. It is the responsibility of the production designer and their team to provide a creative brief for the other designers and ensure the overall show is cohesive.

We are inviting interested Venturers and Rovers to join our team as a Trainee.

What will the role involve:

  • Shadowing the Production Designer, at all rehearsal and meetings.

  • Attending design meetings which are held approximately fortnightly between October and January

  • Attending on-going technical meetings on Monday nights at SPAAC whilst the cast are rehearsing.

  • Contributing to documenting the design elements of the show where appropriate.

  • Making active contributions to creative meetings as design ideas are fleshed out and discussed.

Who Should Apply:

  • Anyone who is interested in Theatre design and the creative technical side of musical theatre

  • Must be 16 years old or over
